What sets us apart from other Pilates studios is our strong Yoga basis. While the original Pilates method has been adapted by many practitioners with a dance background, photographic evidence of Jo Pilate's work (Return to Life through Contrology, first published in 1945) reveals Pilate's own direct adaptation of many basic Yoga postures. These include the Bridge, Shoulderstand, Forward & Side Bend, the Boat, Cobra and Downward Dog, just to name a few.
Today, increased knowledge of muscle mechanics and recruitment has further modified certain Pilates moves to make them more accessable and safe for the general public. Yoga on the other hand, exists today as it has done for thousands of years. While many different styles of Yoga have emerged, the essential components of each posture remains the same and for good reason; it is these essential components that Yoga & Pilates have in common. So it is, we have two complementary body arts with scientific foundations for sound posture and core-centred practise.
